An audition is prepared long before you walk into the room. Here is a simple checklist to keep at hand.
The day before: reread the text until you know it without hesitation, find out about the project and the director, prepare neutral clothing that suggests the character without caricaturing it, and check the route.
On the day: arrive early, with water and a copy of the text. Turn off your phone. Greet everyone, listen carefully to the directions, and do not hesitate to ask a question if an instruction is unclear.
During the audition: take a second before starting, play to your partner rather than to the camera, and accept redirections with a smile: they often test your ability to adapt.
